'WHO'S NEXT': A focus on the undiscovered, connecting you to your new favourite artists.

OFF THE MEDS: With a distinct sound and ambience to their techno beats, the rapping is simple and never overpowering the musicality of their songs

I was chilling and trying to listen to music outside of the normal today and stumbled upon a cool group that I was not aware of until now. The sound they have is super hypnotic and fresh: it's rap/DJ quartet Off The Meds.

Off the Meds is a group from Stockholm, SE. They have a dancehall and rap combo that is meant for a nice chill rave. They have been active since 2017. With a distinct sound and ambience to their techno beats, the rapping is simple and never overpowering the musicality of their songs. My favorite song on their 2020 self titled project, Off the Meds, would have to be Dr.Silencer. Dr. Silencer is a track that showcases their various unique choices for synths, vocal production, rhythmic percussion, and hypnotic melody arrangements. Super chill, but also highly energetic at the same time.

I always love hearing albums from artists who are DJs as well. Whenever you play an album made by people who also DJ, there is just a natural flow and transition to all the songs. Off the Meds did this quite well with the song placement for their entire album. Whether this was the transitions from rapping in a different language and then switching to English, or just the general BPM and tempo of the songs within this album. It also was a cohesive project that had similar song vibes.

The overall project was a simple and easy listen. It made you forget what time was for a bit. The vocals and percussion have an interesting glitch and delay effects that make for a nice change up in typical tech or house music. Their vocal delivery is based on this and they purposefully use less lyrics and allow the glitch and delay effects to travel within the soundscape. It creates a nice futuristic and echoey vibe to a majority of their tracks. #IAMNEXT
