J COLE SPEAKS ON BLM, SHARES SURPRISE SINGLE ‘SNOW ON THA BLUFF’
‘Just 'cause you woke and I'm not, that shit ain't no reason to talk like you better than me’
In a time where cancel culture is rife, the internet really made J. Cole start a Twitter thread in response to claims he dissed rapper NoName on his latest release.
After dropping ‘Snow on tha Bluff’ last night, which marks his first public commentary on the #BlackLivesMatter movement, a number of fans were quick to point out that the lyrics were aimed at Noname, who has been rightly educating and spreading awareness on her platform about recent events – however had previously called out people’s ‘favourite’ rappers recently for failing to use their platforms in the same way.
After being seen out protesting a few weeks ago, J. Cole clearly felt some type of way about it and responded with the song and clarified his position in a Twitter thread below.
He concretises his stance; accepting the criticism and acknowledging that he is another black man in America who needs a leader. His music has never been from a point of vide with the answers, but from the cries of a fellow confused black man. It honestly all feels like they’re trying to out-woke each other, maybe they should’ve just DM’d each other to clear the air…
